WELCOME

Real experience and real leadership achieves results.  In my 4th decade as an O’sider and your incumbent Councilmember I’ve listened, sought solutions, and advocated on your behalf. Examples of our successes include:

  • Development decisions with an emphasis on local control

  • Supporting farmers while laying the groundwork for agrotourism

  • Numerous public safety enhancements

  • Supporting Mobile Home Communities

  • Traffic and Road improvements

  • Biking, walking, and equestrian trail improvements

  • Illegal fireworks enforcement

  • E-bike enforcement

  • Landscape beautification

  • Improved park and recreation facilities

  • Continuation of RE:BEACH and beach sand replenishment

Public service and safety have been my life’s calling, including six years as Oceanside’s Fire Chief.  As a Navy veteran, I understand the needs of active-duty and veteran families.  Oceanside residents since 1988, my wife and I raised four children and have 12 grandchildren.  A safe and thriving Oceanside for residents and visitors is my highest priority.

The City of Oceanside began with the vision of becoming a destination. Guided  by real experience and real leadership, O’side will continue to be a destination to live, work, and play.

Meet Rick Robinson

District 2 Councilmember in Oceanside

During my first term, I had the privilege of meeting with hundreds of residents, business owners, and visitors. If this is your first time visiting our site, I truly look forward to the opportunity to connect with you in person soon. At the bottom of this page, you will find information on how to reach my office directly and sign up for our community newsletter.

To share a bit about my background: I am a native Californian and have called San Diego County home since 1977. My wife, Cheryl, and I moved to Oceanside

in 1988, where we have lived in the very same Whalen Ranch community home ever since. Together, we raised four children, all proud graduates of El Camino High School, and have been blessed with 12 wonderful grandchildren.

My professional journey began in the Fire Service in 1977. Over a 36-year career filled with various assignments and promotions, I eventually retired as a Division Chief with the Orange County Fire Authority. However, retirement didn't last long; just weeks later, I put the uniform back on as a part-time fire inspector for the Oceanside Fire Department. In 2016, I stepped up as Interim Fire Chief, a role that became permanent until my second retirement in July 2022.

Alongside my firefighting career, I proudly served our country in the United States Naval Reserve as a Hospital Corpsman assigned to the 4th Force Service Support Group, Medical Logistics Company. In 1991, I was called to active duty in support of Operation Desert Storm. Following an honorable discharge, I returned to the fire service and completed my reserve enlistment at the rank of Petty Officer 1st Class (HM1). Today, I maintain my strong ties to our military community through American Legion Post 760.

Cheryl and I have always been deeply invested in Oceanside. Cheryl dedicated 19 years to the Oceanside Unified School District, and together we actively support local pillars like the Oceanside Charitable Foundation, the Oceanside Museum of Art, the Ivy Ranch Park Association, the Oceanside Historical Society, and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Oceanside.

In November 2022, before I could fully settle into retirement, my neighbors asked me to run for the open District 2 City Council seat. Being chosen to represent your interests remains the absolute honor of my life. I have done my best every single day to make a tangible difference for our residents and visitors alike. I remain deeply committed to keeping Oceanside safe, prosperous, and true to its unique community values.

Thank you for visiting. Please let me know how I can continue to best serve you.

Respectfully,
Councilmember Rick Robinson
